Critical Care Internal Critical Incident Level 4 Stood Down
As you are aware, University Hospitals of North Midlands has been experiencing significant pressure across all areas at both Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, and particularly within its Critical Care service at Royal Stoke.
As a result of the actions taken on the 25 November the Critical Care Unit pressures have eased considerably and as of 1200 on 1 December the Critical Care internal incident level 4 was stood down.
This means the agreement with partners and colleagues across the Midlands Critical Care and Major Trauma Networks and neighbouring hospitals to reduce the impact on critical care of major trauma and other tertiary services will now cease.
We will keep the position of our critical care unit under daily review.
We are particularly grateful to the University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust for their agreement to support the secondary transfer of major trauma patients if required and to surrounding trusts who have supported the decongestion of our Critical Care Unit by accepting a number of our critical care patients.
