Hot-hubs to support vulnerable patients with Coronavirus symptoms
Hot-hubs are to be set up in number of locations in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent specifically for patients with underlying health problems who have COVID-19 / Coronavirus symptoms.
The appointment-only clinics will be available for anyone who is referred by their GP.
Lynn Millar, Director of Primary Care for the CCGs said: “There are particular concerns about people who are self-isolating at home who have long-term conditions such as asthma or diabetes, or if they are pregnant, who start to show symptoms of COVID-19.”
“If directed by 111 they should contact, but not visit, their GP surgery and if their doctor thinks they need further assessment they can be referred to the hot-hub.”
“When they arrive they will be asked to wait outside, and then they will be seen on a one-in-one-out basis. This is the best way to minimise the risk to both patients and staff.”
“The hot-hub will either be able to advise on treatment or refer the patient to hospital if they think that is best.”
The locations of hot-hubs will not be made public, and they are only able to accept referrals and not drop-ins. They will not be testing for COVID-19.
If you are vulnerable because of a long-term condition you should:
- Self isolate at home
- Use the 111 online service if you develop a high temperature or continuous cough – only call 111 if you’re unable to get help online
- Call your GP if you are advised to
You should not
- Visit your GP surgery
- Go to A&E
Lynn Millar said: “We are increasing capacity to deal with COVID-19, but it is vitally important everyone follows NHS guidance on hand hygiene, self-isolating and social distancing and caring for the most vulnerable.”
